🤖 $44T By 2030? Says Who
An AI company just predicted the US economy hits $44 trillion by 2030.
Today it's a little over $30 trillion. That's roughly $14 trillion of brand-new economy in four years.
That's more than three Japans. Conjured up before the decade is out.
Even the guy saying it admits it sounds wild.

🤖 Who Dropped The Number
Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark said it on Saturday at the IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in Bangkok.
It comes from one of Anthropic's internal economic models, which assumes AI keeps getting better, fast.
Clark's own verdict on the figure? It "sounds very outlandish." Points for honesty. Zero points for calming anyone down.
Going from ~$30T to $44T is growth of around 45%.
Spread over four years, that's roughly 10% a year. The US usually manages 2-3%.

So the model is basically entering a Toyota Corolla into Le Mans and expecting it to win.
How would that even happen? Clark's answer: AI speeds up scientific discovery itself.
And if GDP really grows that much, he says economic doctrine suggests entire new industries and inventions would need to exist to power it.
What he’s really saying? The stuff that makes this number real hasn't even been invented yet.
⚠️ The Fine Print
Clark brought the champagne. He also brought a fire extinguisher.
He warned that faster science means faster misuse of science, flagging biological and cyber weapons and "things we cannot yet imagine."
His pitch: international cooperation on "unusual and serious rules" for AI.

He expects the coming years to feel confusing and disorienting, with great wealth and potentially great peril. Fun combo.
He's not alone either. CEO Dario Amodei has also pushed for coordination between AI companies.
And in September, leaders from Google, Meta, SpaceX, Nvidia, OpenAI and Anthropic signed a White House accord on responsible frontier AI development.
When the people building the rocket start asking for seatbelts, it's worth paying attention.
🧠 What It Means For You
Big caveat first: this is one company's internal model. And that company benefits quite a lot from AI being a very big deal.
Grain of salt. Possibly the whole shaker.

But the direction matters. If even a slice of this plays out, growth could come from industries that don't exist yet, which your portfolio can't currently own.
The flip side: rules are coming. How frontier AI gets regulated could decide which companies grow freely and which get handcuffed.
Watch the "regulation" headlines as closely as the "growth" ones. They're two halves of the same story.

Fire sale or actual fire? 🔥
One AI infrastructure company just lost $7 billion in market cap in a week, and the bond market is acting like the funeral's already booked.
Its 9.75% coupon bonds now yield north of 15%. Default insurance has blown past 1,100 basis points. That's distress pricing.

Here's the strange part. The same company is sitting on more than $100 billion in signed revenue backlog.
Demand keeps coming because there aren't enough high-end GPUs on the planet. Rental prices for them keep climbing, and the customers locked into those contracts are investment-grade hyperscalers who pay their bills.
So the bond market is pricing in a bankruptcy for a company with a queue out the door. Its biggest chip supplier also reportedly owns about 10% of it.
Today in Premium+, we break down what we're doing about it:
Whether the debt is a real threat or a mispriced one
The valuation gap versus its rivals, and whether it's earned
The backstop scenario consensus isn't pricing in

💥 Someone Just Got Blown Out
Wall Street's fear gauge just jumped 30% in a single afternoon.
The VIX $VIXY ( ▲ 8.11% ) went from napping near 16 to above 21, its highest level in over four months.
The trigger? Whispers that a major hedge fund had blown up.
😱 The Afternoon Freakout
Friday morning was quiet. Boring, even. The VIX hovered around 16 like it had nowhere to be.
Then lunch ended and it ripped from a low of 15.73 to an intraday high of 22.31.

By press time it had settled near 21.43. Still up roughly 30% on the day.
According to CNBC's Oliver Renick, the whole mood flipped within about 30 minutes as rumors spread that someone was "getting blown out."
What does that mean? A fund bet big, lost bigger, and may now be forced to sell everything that isn't nailed down.
🔥 Rumors, Meet A Market Already On Edge
Quick caveat: so far this is market chatter, unconfirmed.
But the market didn't wait for confirmation. Jim Cramer said energy pressure plus a big hedge fund blowing up made Friday one of the worst trading days of the year.

The backdrop wasn't helping:
S&P 500 down 1.2%
Tech stocks took another beating
WTI crude back above $100 a barrel, up about 11% in five days
Oil up 11% in a week is like your landlord raising the rent mid-lease. Every business that moves stuff around feels it.
Why does one fund's bad day matter to everyone else? Because forced sellers dump whatever they can sell fastest, and that drags prices down across the board.
Fear spreads faster than facts. Always has.

🧠 What It Means For You
The VIX tracks how much turbulence traders expect over the next 30 days. Mid-teens is calm. Above 20 is people checking their portfolios on the toilet.
A few things worth watching:
If the rumor gets a name, expect more choppy days as the market works out who else is exposed.
If it fizzles, rumor-driven VIX spikes can deflate as fast as they inflate.
Oil above $100 is the bigger slow-burn story. It feeds inflation worries and squeezes company margins, rumor or no rumor.
One wild afternoon doesn't make a crash. It does tell you nerves are thin.
The VIX is the smoke alarm. Friday it went off. Now we find out if someone just burnt the toast.

📉 Your Tech Funds Felt This
CoreWeave dropped 12.6% in a single afternoon.
And it had company. 73 of the Nasdaq 100's members finished Friday in the red.
That's nearly three out of every four. A fire drill where everyone actually left the building.

📉 The Damage
The Nasdaq 100 fell 2.4% on Friday. The broader Nasdaq Composite slid 2.1%.
Investors rotated out of growth stocks and the wider tech sector. AKA The expensive stuff got sold first.

The pain hit high-valuation names hardest. These are the stocks priced like the future is already in the bag.
🤖 The AI Crowd Took The Biggest Punch
The top of the losers list reads like the guest list at an AI infrastructure conference:
CoreWeave $CRWV ( ▼ 11.91% ): -12.6%
Nebius Group $NBIS ( ▼ 12.18% ): -11.4%
Seagate Technology $STX ( ▼ 7.5% ): -5.8%
Arm Holdings $ARM ( ▼ 6.94% ): -5.5%
Astera Labs $ALAB ( ▼ 5.35% ): -5.3%
Intel $INTC ( ▼ 5.79% ): -5%
CoreWeave and Nebius rent out AI computing power. When the AI trade catches a cold, they catch the flu.
Cybersecurity got smacked too:
Palo Alto Networks $PANW ( ▼ 7.64% ): -7.8%
Fortinet $FTNT ( ▼ 7.03% ): -7.4%
CrowdStrike $CRWD ( ▼ 7.03% ): -7.1%
Three companies that sell protection. Zero protection from a sell-off. 🫠
The rest of the casualty report:
Moderna $MRNA ( ▼ 7.82% ): -9.7%
Strategy Inc $MSTR ( ▼ 9.56% ): -9.7%
Datadog $DDOG ( ▼ 7.19% ): -7.9%
Rocket Lab $RKLB ( ▼ 7.98% ): -7.5%
Palantir $PLTR ( ▼ 7.22% ): -7.0%
Axon Enterprise $AXON ( ▼ 6.45% ): -5.1%
Yes, a vaccine maker landed joint third in a tech sell-off. Moderna wandered into the wrong party and still got hit with the bill.
🧠 What It Means For You
Growth stocks are a two-way escalator. They climb fastest when sentiment is hot and drop fastest when it cools.

If your portfolio leans on AI, cybersecurity or high-flying tech, Friday probably stung.
Worth knowing: many tech-heavy index funds and ETFs hold a lot of these same names. Owning five different tech funds can mean owning the same stocks five times.
Diversification by label isn’t diversification by holdings. Worth a peek under the hood.
